Solar Solutions
Renew Electric supplies and installs complete solar power and battery systems for homes and businesses across Hamilton and the wider Waikato.
From the initial site assessment and system design through to equipment supply, installation, commissioning and monitoring setup, we manage your entire project from start to finish.
With more than eight years of industry experience and over 1,200 solar installations completed, Isaac brings extensive practical knowledge to every system. You will deal directly with an experienced local solar electrician, not a salesperson incentivised to sell you a larger system than you need.
Honest solar advice from a local installer
We design your solar system around your property, electricity use, budget and future plans. Our focus is on providing a practical system that delivers genuine value, rather than maximising profits by adding unnecessary equipment.
As a locally owned Waikato business, our reputation matters to us. We live and work in the communities we serve, and we are invested in building lasting relationships with our customers. That means clear explanations, honest recommendations.
One team from quote to commissioning
Because we supply and install the complete system, you have one point of contact and clear accountability throughout the project. We’ll help you choose the right solution, complete the electrical and rooftop installation, commission the equipment and make sure you understand how to use and monitor it.
Whether you want to lower your power bills, add battery backup, upgrade an existing system or prepare your home for an EV, Renew Electric can provide a practical solution tailored to your needs.

Solar can be a worthwhile investment, particularly for homes and businesses that use a good amount of electricity during daylight hours.
The value of solar depends on your electricity consumption, roof orientation, available sunlight, system cost and how much of the generated power you use yourself. EECA says a payback period of less than seven to ten years can be possible in suitable circumstances, particularly where electricity prices and sunshine hours are above average. EECA solar costs and savings
We assess your actual electricity use before recommending a system. Our goal is to design something that makes financial sense for your property, rather than selling you the largest system possible.
-
The cost depends on the number of panels, inverter, roof type, switchboard condition, access requirements and whether battery storage or backup power is included. The best way to establish an accurate price is to review your power bills and property. Renew Electric provides tailored quotes based on what your household actually needs, rather than offering one standard package for every home.
-
Your savings depend on the amount of solar electricity you generate and how much you use while it is being produced.
Using your solar power directly is generally more valuable than exporting it. Running appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers, hot water systems and electric vehicle chargers during the day can help you get greater value from your system.
We can estimate likely generation and savings as part of your solar proposal, but we will not promise unrealistic results.
-
Will solar completely eliminate my electricity bill?
Usually not. Most connected homes will still have electricity retailer charges and may need to purchase power from the grid at night or when solar generation is low.
A well designed solar system can substantially reduce the amount of electricity you purchase, but the result depends on your energy use, system size and whether you have battery storage.
-
No. Solar panels can power your home during the day without a battery. Any unused electricity can be exported to the grid, subject to your network connection and electricity retailer arrangements.
A battery stores surplus solar electricity so it can be used later, usually in the evening or overnight. Batteries can also provide backup power during an outage if the system has been specifically designed with backup capability.
Batteries offer greater energy independence, but they can extend the financial payback period because of the additional upfront cost. EECA

A standard connected solar system will normally shut down during a power cut to protect people working on the electricity network.
To keep selected appliances or your whole home operating, you need a compatible battery, inverter and backup arrangement. Not every battery installation automatically provides backup power, so this should be discussed during the design stage.
We can design essential load or whole home backup, depending on your electricity supply, switchboard, household loads and budget.
-
In many cases, yes. Renew Electric installs battery and inverter retrofits, including systems that we did not originally install.Isaac will assess your existing panels, inverter, switchboard, metering and system configuration. We will explain what can be retained, what needs upgrading and whether a compatible battery can be added safely and cost effectively.
-
Yes. We can assess faulty, outdated or incompatible inverters and recommend suitable replacement options.
You may also choose to install a hybrid inverter in preparation for battery storage. Compatibility must be checked carefully, as not every inverter, panel and battery combination will work together.
-
The right size depends on your electricity consumption, when you use power, available roof space, roof orientation, budget and future plans.
We also consider whether you intend to add a battery, electric vehicle, spa pool, additional heating or other significant electrical loads.
A bigger system is not automatically a better investment. We will recommend a practical system based on your property and actual energy needs.
-
Not always. However, an upgrade or additional protection may be required if your switchboard is older, has insufficient space or does not provide the protection required for the proposed solar and battery system.
We inspect the switchboard during the assessment and explain any required electrical work before the installation proceeds.
-
Solar systems generally require limited maintenance, but they should still be monitored and periodically inspected.
Panels may require cleaning if dirt, leaves, lichen or bird droppings are affecting performance. Monitoring can also help identify declining generation, inverter faults or communication issues.
Renew Electric provides solar servicing, fault finding, inverter replacement and battery support.
